유년기 시절의 꿈과 재현
현대사회는 첨단과학이 발달하면서 인간복제에 대한 우려와, 유전자 변형, 무분별한 성형으로 인한 인간적 윤리와 휴머니즘이 위협받고 있다. 우리의 내면은 인간성을 상실하면서 다양한 욕망으로 채워져 가고 있으며, 그 욕망의 끝을 알 수 없을 정도로 빠르게 진화하고 있다.
화실 귀퉁이에 놓여있던 꼬마인형이 내 작품 속으로 들어오게 된 동기는 인간의 ‘관계’라는 주제의 연작에서 비롯된 것으로 자연스럽게 숨겨진 감성을 해방하는데서 출발했다. 나는 대부분의 사람들이 가지는 보편적인 꿈과 갈망들을 상상해보면서 유년기 시절의 꿈에 관한 기억을 창작의 모티브로 연관 지었다. 플라스틱 장난감 병정놀이는 시각적 즐거움, 유쾌함을 제공했고, 꿈을 쫓아 성장해가는 동안 미래가 현실이 되고, 현실은 과거가 되었다.
인형시리즈 작품은 무생물과 나 자신이 소통하는 문제를 보여주고자 하는데 여기서 소통은 삶의 재현뿐만이 아니라 나 자신의 존재론적 상황에 질문을 던지고 있는 것이다. 인형의 눈을 통해 투영된 우리의 모습들은 새로운 미적언어로 확장되며, 그 내용들은 나와의 교감을 통하여 표출된다. 인형의 눈동자는 사이보그 적이지만 친근하며, 때론 냉소적인 시각으로 인간의 욕망과 위선을 조롱한다.
우리 삶의 현실과 꿈, 그리고 이상은 각자 다른 일정한 카테고리를 가지고 있는 것이 아니라 현실 속에 경계 없이 존재하고 있다. 어린 시절 장난감들을 통해 무한한 꿈을 키우면서 관념 속에서만 존재하던 세계……, 그 공상 세계는 차츰 현실이 되었고, 이제 그 잃어버린 꿈을 되찾으러 인형 속으로 들어간다.

Representation of the Childhood Dream
The more high technology develops in modern society, the more the morality and humanism are threatened by concerns about human cloning, GMOs, and plastic surgery. Forgetting our humanity, we have concentrated on satisfying endless desires.
The little doll in the corner of my studio caught my eyes when I started this series about human 'relationships.' In it, I want to express my spiritual world freely. I started by imagining the dreams and desires of most people, and then developed memories from childhood dream as a motif. A plastic toy soldier was visually pleasing and inspired me. After that the future turned the present and the present became the past while I have pursued my dream.
In the doll series, I have tried to show a link between myself and things. I meant the communication was not only the representation of life but the question of my existence. Our images seem to be reflected by dolls' eyes and are created again into artist's aesthetic language of space and time. Though we feel friendly when we look at a dolls' eyes, they, sometimes, seem to somehow ridicule our desires and hypocrisy.
There is no boundary in our life, dreams, nor is there an ideal. When I was a child, I dreamed of an ideal world with my toys, but the virtual world has become the reality. I hope and expect that the people who see my art will find joy and comfort as I do.
